MYSO needs volunteer interns to mentor young string students in Progressions and Prelude Orchestra this season, running from September 20, 2018 – May 15, 2019.

Who is eligible:

MYSO musicians in Senior Symphony, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, and Sinfonia, grade 7 and up are eligible. We are looking for both string and non-string players.

Why should you be a mentor?

Mentoring gives you the opportunity to pass along what others have taught you–playing skills, good practice habits, or learning to play collaboratively within an ensemble. Please consider joining us to build a stronger MYSO community. All are encouraged to volunteer, including non-string players.

Interns may be asked to:

  • be a teaching assistant, mentor, and tutor
  • be attentive to teacher and actively participate – students will notice and imitate you!
  • help students find book, page, or piece; help them follow along
  • help correct posture, hand position, bow hold; show them how to hold instrument correctly
  • help tune instruments
  • look for struggling students and play besides them
  • take attendance

  • Mondays, 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm (lessons/masterclasses)
