Who We Are: Since 1956, The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) has been nurturing, challenging and inspiring young minds through music. MYS0 is the largest and one of the most successful and respected after school youth orchestra programs in the nation. We serve more than 7,000 young people ages 8-18, and MYSO is regularly recognized for its artistic excellence.

About the Role: We are looking for a Senior Development Director to join our ensemble. Under the strategic direction of the Executive Director, this role is responsible for the development, management, implementation, and evaluation of the overall fundraising program consistent with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra’s needs and goals. The Senior Development Director partners with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to build a year-round development, cultivation, and stewardship program that demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. This role is responsible for planning and executing all annual, sponsorship, capital, endowment, and planned giving programs as well as fundraising events and benefits. The Senior Development Director is also responsible for writing, submission, and follow-up on grant applications to federal, state, and local government agencies that provide arts, arts education, and other appropriate funding; researching, writing, submission, and follow-up to private foundations and corporations that provide arts, arts education, and other appropriate grants.

The Senior Development Director will maintain an assigned portfolio of prospects, donors, grants, and fundraising programs.

What it takes to be our Senior Development Director: Successful candidates will have a minimum of 7 years fundraising and development experience in the nonprofit sector; a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or commensurate work experience; and a verified track record of meeting or exceeding measurable fundraising goals in a medium to large, fast-paced nonprofit environment. We are looking for a strong leader with effective communication and public speaking skills who has demonstrated the ability to build, maintain and manage long-term relationships with fundraising constituents. This position is ideal for a high energy individual who has strong project management and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple fundraising initiatives concurrently. This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, as well as the ability and willingness to travel as necessary for fundraising meetings and events.  

Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
