Music Director, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra


Join our ensemble! The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra is the largest and one of the most successful and respected after school youth orchestra programs in the nation. Serving more than 1,000 young musicians ages 8-18, MYSO is regularly recognized for its artistic excellence.

The Music Director of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra must:

  1. be a musician and instructor of the highest quality,
  2. be committed to educating young people, and
  3. possess a commanding ability to communicate.

The ability to recruit, attract, motivate, and retain young musicians is critical.

The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra is comprised of 120 advanced musicians ages 14-18, rehearsing primarily on Monday evenings September through May. The orchestra performs professional orchestral repertoire, preparing five concerts each season.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in leading and programming standard orchestral repertoire for large youth ensembles. Additionally, a bachelor’s degree/certificate in music performance or music education is required; a master’s degree and/or advanced training in instrumental conducting are highly preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with skill and expertise. Benefits are not included with this part-time position.
