MYSO-MSO Erika Z. Richman Reading Workshop Application
June 10 & 14, 2019
Why the MYSO-MSO Erika Z. Richman Reading Workshop is an important part of MYSO’s programming:
Our musicians are exposed to to music which will make a lasting impression about contrasting styles in western music literature.
You work with professional symphony musicians in their element.
It gives those who want to pursue music professionally an idea of what’s required in terms of ability, approach, time constraints, pressure, etc. For those with different life goals this provides an experience which leads to appreciating professional musicians and their contribution to society.
It gives the opportunity to investigate music which MYSO will most likely never program due to instrumentation, length, difficulty, etc. Many in MYSO will likely never have the opportunity to perform these great pieces.
MYSO is able to program music which will allow the orchestra to run each selection more than once. Ideally, the ensemble rehearses the piece with coaching from players and the conductors and then play the full selection again. Though challenging, it’s fun, too.
