Learning to read and understand music is like learning a foreign language, and the study of music theory is learning to speak this new language. Led by James Burmeister, Senior Lecturer of Theory and Composition at UW-Milwaukee, these engaging courses will take you from the basics of major and minor scales through complicated harmonic analysis and original composition.
The knowledge you will gain in Music Theory will turn you into a more complete and well-versed musician who can study a score and understand why music is composed the way it is! You will play your instrument with greater authority, and if you plan to study music in college, MYSO’s Music Theory classes will put you a step ahead.
MYSO musicians grade 7 and up are eligible.
