INTERLOCHEN ARTS CAMP HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM

 

The new Joanne W. Hulce Merit Scholarship supports talented young musicians who have demonstrated the capacity to succeed in the exceptional opportunities made possible at the Interlochen Arts Camp High School Music Summer Program. One musician will be selected to receive a scholarship for full tuition (up to $10,000 maximum) for the Interlochen Arts Camp High School Music Program.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

  • be currently enrolled in MYSO’s Senior Symphony, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, or Philharmonia
  • currently be in grades 9-12
  • need financial assistance to attend this program
  • be deeply committed to furthering their artistic experiences and education
  • show outstanding interest, ability, and potential as identified by his/her MYSO music director and private teacher
  • be contemplating a career in music
  • intend to enroll in the full 6-week summer program

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants must:

  • apply for and eventually be admitted to the Interlochen Arts Camp High School Music Program (Interlochen application deadline is February 1; admission decisions are made in March)
  • complete and submit a scholarship application to MYSO (see below)
  • complete and submit a MYSO 2018-19 Financial Aid Application to MYSO, if not already submitted
  • submit a video recording on which the applicant plays two contrasting movements, preferably of a concerto or sonata (piano accompaniment optional). Video can be submitted via Dropbox link or similar sharing service in the following formats: .wav, .mpg, .aiff or DVD. Please clearly identify the work, composer, and performer.
  • Submit one letter of recommendation each (total of two) from:
    • their private instrumental teacher and
    • their music director at MYSO regarding his or her perceptions of the student’s demonstrated outstanding interest, ability, and potential for success while enrolled at Interlochen.

1-3 finalists will be chosen to play a live audition.
