Be a part of the John Downey Creation Project

We invite MYSO’s budding composers to apply for the John Downey Creation Project!

Application due date is Friday, February 12.

MYSO continues to premiere compositions completed in the 2019-20 season that were deferred when programming was cut short last March. Even though performance avenues are limited, we would still like to provide an opportunity to two or three interested students to compose a short work which may be played in rehearsal or performance.

How it works:

  • Selected students will be paired up with a professional composer/teaching artist.
  • Teaching artists will provide guidance and instruction throughout the compositional process (via Zoom or similar virtual platform).
  • Professional level score and parts will be produced by MYSO’s music librarian.

Requirements:

  • access to a computer music engraving program such as Finale or Sibelius
  • a statement describing:
    • what this opportunity would mean to you
    • your experience writing music and a sample, if you have one
    • your experience with composition software such as Finale or Sibelius
  • a $200 fee

How to apply:

Please email your statement (described above) to Artistic Administrator Dan Duffy at danduffy@myso.org by Friday, February 12, 2021.

Space is limited in this unique program.
