Calypso, led by Directors Tim Rush and Charlie Short, is comprised of students from various
Milwaukee schools, was created in 2007 with an MPS Partnership for the Arts grant; our sincere thanks to MPS for the continued support of the program. The program consists of intensive rehearsal and training of students who come from various Milwaukee schools and auditioned into Calypso by showing a positive attitude, a natural sense of rhythm and a genuine desire to learn. Calypso has performed throughout Milwaukee, with highlight performances including African World Festival in 2008, at United Performing Arts Fund events, the Lakefront Festival of the Arts and multiple appearances at Summerfest and the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebrations at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
