Calypso was formed in May of 2007 in partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools and is led by Director Tim Rush and Instructor Charlie Short. The program consists of intensive rehearsal and training of students who come from various Milwaukee schools and auditioned into Calypso by showing a positive attitude, a natural sense of rhythm and a genuine desire to learn. Following a successful summer "pilot" season, Calypso continued into the regular MYSO season in the fall of 2007, as the newest ensemble in the MYSO family. Calypso performs feature concerts at MYAC twice each season and has perfomed all over Milwaukee, with highlight performances at African World Festival, Martin Luther King Day Celebration, numerous corporate and civic events and Summerfest.
